This is number 17 in my series of articles that are committed to finding the perfect kid friendly activities to do and fun places to be as a single parent in the city of Naples, Florida. Divorced? Separated? Taking some time with your children alone? My goal is to find things that you and your children can experience while having fun together. Today, children are being more and more exposed to technology and spend a lot of time on their tablets and smartphones. Although I do love the benefits that come from these devices, I think getting the kids out of the house and into an interactive setting can be beneficial for both you and your kids! I know I treasure the moments that allow me to really bond and interact with my children. I’m not just a lawyer, I’m also a dad.
Listed as number 6 under “Best things to do when you have 36 hours in Naples” in the New York Times Travel section, Naples Lionel Train Museum is the ideal place to visit with children of all ages. Simple yet enticing, spending your Friday or Saturday morning talking about trains and their history would be an enjoyable activity for the kids.
At the Naples Lionel Train Museum, you can witness the eye-catching scenery and layout of the multi-level train display. On the layout, there are 10 trains that simultaneously moving along the tracks to mimic real life locomotives. Your children can interact with the layout and trains by pressing the buttons provided. This is a favorite among the kids as well as the adults! I mean, who doesn’t like pressing buttons . . . it’s not only for the kids. Also making an appearance is Thomas the tank Engine! Everyone who visits is a big fan whenever seeing Thomas, both the parents and the children. The Thomas train is very nostalgic for the adults and fun for the children. You will also be able to ride the train outdoors with your admission ticket . . . how exciting!
If your child has a birthday coming up, the Naples Lionel Train Museum is the perfect place to host their private birthday party. Private birthday parties will be available Fridays and Saturdays 2-4pm. This would be a great opportunity to invite some single parents and their children, so everyone has a good time- who doesn’t love a mini field trip?
Just in time for the Holidays, the museum will be hosting their grand opening of the Naples Festival of Lights. This will take place on November 19th on 3rd Street at 6 pm. During this special event, a train will be riding between buildings that are going to be lit to represent France, Switzerland and the USA. Super cool spot to witness with your family especially being there for the grand opening!
Beginning on November 2nd, the museum will be open from 10am- 2pm Fridays and Saturdays with the last train ride being at 1:55pm.

Children 14+ and Adults: $7
*Each ticket includes ride on outdoor train
